So Valentines day is only 10 days away. I don't have a romantic interest but I still celebrate the day. Hearts are my favorite shape and it is a great day to eat chocolate and not feel bad!
Valentines changes as one grows up. I was reflecting back the other day that to me at home it was a day that I would have a special breakfast made for me usually by my mom and there would be a card at my place-mate that usually talked about hugs and had a largest heart I had ever seen. Then next to that card would be a bag of dove special moments chocolate. During lunch that day at school I would usually find a chocolate in my lunch box. In Elementary school it was a time when no matter how well you liked your classmates you were expected to get a card for each of them. In middle school there would be a contest on the best valentines box where all your cards would be placed into through out that day. High School is when it started to change. If you were in a romantic relationship they would do something for you, maybe! This did not happen in my case, frankly I don't even remember being told I LOVE YOU on that day by my partner.
Now we reach college. Since I am not in a relationship I can't say that people get all dressed up, go out to eat, get flowers and chocolates and watch the stars together on a blanket in the park. I would think maybe but I would probably be kidding myself.
So since I have always seen this holiday as a time with family and friends and not romantic ones this is how I plan to spend it. Abbie, Lisa, myself and possibly grace, all friends from Jacksonville University, will be baking yummy stuff, eating chocolate and going to watch 'Valentines Day', a movie in the movie theaters! Leah and a couple of friends, other friends at Jacksonville University, plan to get dressed up in black and celebrate anti-valentines (LOVE) day. But since this day was just supposed to spread love for one another and not necessarily between lovers I will be celebrating!
